Tui-Na
Introduction
Chinese medicine is a great treasure house. Over many centuries practitioners have created many treatments for disease for example, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Tui-Na, Cupping therapy, Moxibustion, Qi Gong and so on. The massage is an important component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
Q. Does it hurt?
A. The massage is very firm but if there is damaged tissue then it can be a little unpleasant
Q. How long does it take?
A. Most treatments last from 30mins to 60mins
Q. Do I have to strip off?
A. Not for general massage, sometimes to protect your clothes from special oils.
Q. How does it work?
A. Tui-Na is sometimes called trauma therapy, breaking down scar tissue to speed up the healing process
What is the procedure for TUI-NA massage?
1.Consultation & Examination:
- Before treatment the practitioner will explain what is Tui-Na and its action.
- Questions about health and disease (case history) will be taken to ascertain the level of injury/disease and your constitution.
- Tongue and pulse may be taken to ascertain the conditions of the internal organs.
2. You will be asked to remove your jewellery and shoes. The treatment is done in prone, supine or seated. The practitioner will instruct you to the appropriate position for the massage.
3. You will be covered with a cotton sheet. Then various hand, finger and elbow techniques will be performed through the cotton sheet. During a sports injury session clothing may be removed to protect them from special oils, which may damage clothing.
4. After the treatment advice may be given on Dietary, Lifestyle and exercise to lessen the effect of disease and to strengthen your constitution.
General Tui-Na £25.00/ £35.00/ £45.00
The massage will loosen tight muscles, invigorate tired muscles assist in lymph drainage, invigorate the blood and generally relax the whole body.
Sports Injury Tui-Na £30.00/45.00
Used as a remedial massage to treat any muscle group or joint. Special oils may be used to help break down scar tissue and to stop bleeding (due to trauma) tight muscles are relaxed then stretched. The areas worked on are the origin and insertion of the muscle as well as the Channels and acupuncture points.
Other therapies used during the treatment of injury are Moxa, Cupping, Hot compress and Infra red heat lamps.
Medical Tui-Na £35.00/(£45.00with herbs)
After deep tissue massage Chinese herbs are given to speed up the healing process. The herbs used are in the patent form tablets, which would be taken daily.
The above treatment can be used for many ailments including diabetes, diarrhoea, palpitations, arthritis and weak constitution.

About Simon James:
Master Simon James is an experienced Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner with over 10 years experience.

As well as running his own Martial Arts Institute, he is a member of both the International Guild of Professional Practitioners and Register of Chinese Herbal Practitioners. Simon practices therapies ranging from Qi Gong to Chinese Herbal Medicine. He is a martial arts Master and specialises in Tui-Na, Reflexology Herbs and acupuncture.
Simon runs a busy clinic and supervises training courses at ‘Oriental Therapies’ in East London. ‘He also runs educational courses at ‘Eastlea Learning Zone’ as part of an urban regeneration initiative.
Finally, Simon organises annual Study Trips to China which are attended by other therapists to study acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, massage and Tai Chi. Simon is a facilitator of foreign students at TCM hospitals in Hang Zhou City for Tui-Na clinical practice.
